What should a beginner network engineer know?

Good day, friends.
I would like to ask you, what is the necessary stock of knowledge that a novice network engineer should have?
At this stage I am reading Tanenbaum - Computer networks. I will also go to the course of a specialist in TCP / IP - not for the sake of studying, but rather to lay the foundation of knowledge, so that in the process of studying there is already a solid understanding of the material. After tanenbaum I'm going to look into TCP/IP Illustrated, Volume 1: The Protocols, 2nd Edition
W. Richard Stevens, Kevin R. Fall May 05, 2012 - found this in a related thread. Accordingly, in the future, gradually begin to study Cisco systems. What are some good study materials?
Thank you all in advance.
And respect :)

There is a publishing house with an unexpected name "Cisco Press" and a shocking amount of books. For a beginner in this abundance, Vito Amato's two-volume "Fundamentals of Cisco Networking" is very good.

It seems to me that a novice networker needs an inquisitive mind, the ability and desire to use wireshark, patience to read networks for the smallest. Well, the emulator should be able to put something like unetlab (although cisco packet tracert or gns is also suitable for starting).
Well, and also the skill of using sites with job offers, maybe in your city this is not a promising direction at all.
But just recently you were going to be a developer. Apparently it didn't work. You already decide.
