What's wrong with the router? Or buy a new one?

NETGEAR wnr1000v2 Router
Lost packets to the external network (about half). In a network all packets go normally. It does not depend on the device in the network and the communication channel (wire, WIFI). Rebooting the router saves. Router is 6 years old. Similar problems started about three months ago. At first, the "reboot effect" was enough for several days, then hours, now for several minutes, or maybe not work at all.
The communication channel to the external network is in order.

1. Carry out standard ping / tracert and speedtests
2. Find out if there are technical works / equipment replacement / problems on the provider's side
3. Check the firmware version, roll back / replace
4. Reset to factory settings / get it automatically again
5. According to typical model problems Googled the router?

  • Check the channel to the provider. It's not uncommon for some unfortunate installer to leave twists that develop in the wind, and you don't even know about it. A simple twisted-pair re-crimp can often help. You need to check through a known-good router or PC.
Does not help? Is everything ok with the channel to the provider? Get a new router. I advise Mikrotik - there is a rich selection of settings and monitoring tools for both the router itself and the communication channel. Well, the quality is certainly better than these your longs and asus.
