What's the oddity?

Entered into Google: -10 ^ 2, he gave out -100.
The question is why?

-10^2 = -1 * 10^2 = -100
(-10)^2 = 100

It's not strange, but it is quite written why it is so: -(10^2) = -100

-1 x 10 ^ 2 = -100 makes more sense? :)
