What rules do you follow when conducting financial transactions on your PC?

Is there a certain checklist with "rules" on how to protect your PC from all sorts of threats as much as possible? For example: use a virtual machine for online payments. Please tell me what else can be done?

There is.
I have one rule - never pay online with cards that have real money. From salary, credit, etc.
I make all payments on the tyrnet with Ya.Dengi - from the virtual card that they provide me. And I transfer money to it immediately before buying through the Internet bank, in which 2FA is required . Do not shine in tyrnet details of cards with money - and you will be Happiness ...

For example: use a virtual machine for online payments.

Rave.
SMS confirmation will save even from keyloggers.
All these recommendations are outdated already 5 years ago. Use a smartphone (on iOS, of course, on Android, especially with root, financial transactions are contraindicated). On a PC with any reasonable OS, there is nothing to be afraid of.

The main rule is to keep the car clean so that there is not a single Trojan rubbish and other viruses. This is a big topic.
Don't fall for phishing.
Don't go to suspicious sites.
Do not transfer money to strangers.
Be able to recognize scammers who have hacked into your friends and loved ones, and who are asking for money via Skype / social networks. Here, no SMS will protect.

The rule is simple - a separate PC for financial transactions, on which there is only a browser without extensions. You can also have access to the mail there. In any case, you need a head on your shoulders so as not to download suspicious files from emails and run them. Otherwise, a separate computer is almost the maximum protection. In terms of threats, only 0-day vulnerabilities in software and OS remain, attacks through which are very rare.
As for the virtual machine, I did not quite understand you. If, for example, you have a Trojan in the main system and it scans keystrokes and takes screenshots, and then sends it all to an attacker, then how can a virtual machine help protect your payment data and passwords?

Windows 7 in a virtual machine.
It is in sleep mode all the time, nothing else is done on it.

If children also use the computer, then get a SEPARATE SSD, install an OS, antivirus and what you need for the bank on it. Connected - loaded - worked - turned off - turned off and on the shelf until the next time.

Linux on a separate machine. SMS messages are now intercepted with a bang. I was told the equipment is already worth a penny. Therefore, if there is remote access to the machine, then that's it.
For personal use, it is enough to keep Linux, when moving Linux on a flash drive. And boot from any machine into a safe environment.
