Insufficient income and the availability of free time are pushing into the field of freelancing. I'm going to learn programming and move to Upwork. What programming language is the most in demand and well paid, besides, it has good prospects in the future? I myself tend to study Php and all related material? I would like to hear your opinions! About me: education in the field of IT, worked as an enikey worker, now I comprehend sql and gradually switch to servers.

Freelancing requires professionals, not languages.

First of all, consider that a). freelancing is first of all a beautiful folk legend, more than real earnings and b). freelancing is, according to the qualification of its hack, it is not a professional job, but a coven, where there is not an increase in your level, but a dequalification.
Yes, I know, and there are quite a few from among my inner circle in freelance who work professionally and are highly paid, but everyone is like that : having twirled in freelancing, they contract there for one or two regular customers and work in their long-term projects - this is the same job for hire .
In reality, if these are more or less voluminous and lengthy works, from what is offered in freelancing (Upwork) - this is Python. But there is clearly not an initial level of knowledge of Python required everywhere.
Of course, you can also use poor sites for $100 apiece ... but this is already a very amateur.

Start not only from what is in demand, but also from what you would like to do.
Once you know sql, you can look towards the backend. And the backend is PHP, Python, Ruby, and then Java. If you are satisfied with the backend, then start with PHP. Let the python be easier to learn, but it is more difficult to find orders for it. But - do not get hung up on one language - then learn python, and then maybe the frontend.
There are other areas in freelancing - they have their own languages ...

Learn Python. You can write desktop software and make websites on it. Yes, and the level of RFP is often higher than that of sipipisnikov.
