What platform to use for the "knowledge base" within the company?

Something like Confluence - this one is not suitable just because $ 500 for 50 people is a bit much for a knowledge base.

DokuWiki
(I use it myself with Google's two-factor authentication plugins and popup frames - it's just awesome convenient to display different documents / JS code via a direct link in the form of a popup window!)
