What OS to install on home hosting?
I would be very glad if someone can help :)
I found an old laptop from 2006 and decided to turn it into a home hosting
What axis is better to install?
Now installed lubuntu and disabled the X server
Maybe there are better options?
And is there any difference at all?
My task is to use all the resources of the laptop as useful as possible
(without being distracted along the way by unnecessary processes for the GUI to work correctly)
PS I tried to install just a bare core, a lot of trouble with connecting to WIFI

Put any bare server distribution kit in the minimum version, you only need to configure Wi-Fi once, although I would score on Wi-Fi and connect it with a wire, it's more reliable. If there is no network card, you can buy a Chinese USB network card.
Do not install anything directly on the server, only in docker containers.
Start with the simplest Ubuntu-Server option. If something doesn’t suit you in the future, it’s easy to rearrange it to anything, because everything is in containers.
But if I were you, I wouldn’t fool around with local hardware (unless, of course, you are building a smart home and not a local NAS), but got myself a VDS. Now it is inexpensive and very convenient for home projects.
Any BSD, they are lighter and there is nothing extra out of the box. Taking into account the hardware of 2006, no dockers, containers and other things.
