What mini computer/server would you recommend for development?

I need a minicomputer, purely for web development, I want to put ubuntu on it and steer it via ssh, what would you advise to be inexpensive and less frisky!?

Maybe the question did not sound quite complete, but do you definitely need a separate physical computer?
a small computer with ubuntu and ssh can be made into a virtual machine in virtualbox for example.

I use a Raspberry Pi with Debian on board for this purpose. You can also use Odroid with Ubuntu on board. The price of the issue, together with the bells and whistles in the form of a card, case and power supplies, will burn around 65 dead presidents. If you look at used ones, it's even cheaper.
