What makes a person more beautiful - a certificate of coursera or a repo on github (commit to open source)?

For spiritual renewal, I took the Stanford algorithmization course on coursera ( Algorithm: design and analysis if anyone is interested). The course includes theoretical and practical tasks. Who coped - to that Statement of Accomplishment. The course is interesting, useful and comes easily. Solving problems however takes a lot of time and effort that could be spent on real code for real problems rather than academic exercises. I received the statement from sports passion. The second part of the course has opened and of course I will listen to lectures, but should I be killed for grades?
The question arose - does this coursera statement have at least some status for anyone really employed in the industry (HR, teamlead, remote contractor)?

Everything is useful.
Courses are useful, because employers like that you like to develop in your free time.
The use of open projects on github to show someone: you can evaluate the code. For some, this is not useful if the code is the same as that of the one person who answered your question. It is better not to show such code ( https://github.com/nazar-pc/CleverStyle-CMS/blob/m... ).
For yourself, the benefits of the courses are even greater: this is practically the only normal education available in Russia. The benefit of github for oneself is to satisfy one's HR by creating useful developments.

I take 2-3 courses in parallel, at first I solved problems, then I scored. He took courses on algorithms from Princeton (now the second part is underway).
So I support the previous commentator - it's better on GitHub, no one will see your tasks, and a certificate is like a diploma: it is there, but not the fact that your real knowledge corresponds to it.

It is also useful to be yellow or red on topcoder
community.topcoder.com/tc?cc=&sc=&sd=&cc=&module=A...
Somewhere I saw an opinion that one person really wanted to join the red coder team, just to tell him what he needs and he could do everything at once without jambs

It really depends on where you want to get a job, I won’t say about HRs, but the team / tech lead is unlikely to pay special attention to certificates, as well as to a diploma, but he’ll look at the code on github for sure, they may even ask - “why are you Do you add a github link to your resume? So it’s definitely not worth killing yourself because of the assessment - I have about 5 certificates with coursers and this has never been a special bonus in interviews. In general, algorithms are a useful thing, for yourself to listen to lectures and solve problems for the future.

GitHub, just not the fact that there is a repository or a couple of pull requests, but a certain amount of decent code that you wrote, and by which you can evaluate your qualifications.
