What knowledge should a novice network engineer have?

Good day!
I would like to ask what kind of knowledge base a novice network engineer should have ? Interested in literature with which you must familiarize yourself , or what you yourself would read if you were in my place. There is very little knowledge in this area, I would say that they are close to zero.

be able to google
1) in general, you can read about the OSI model and datagrams
2) master a set of tools (see in your eyes) wireshark, nmap + everything standard in Unix (ipconfig there and all that)
exam - three VPNs on one server with different routes for different clients with an understanding of what and how, rather than stacking

Cisco has a lot of training courses and books. For example, there is an ICND (Interconnecting Cisco network devices) course, in two parts. Don't let the word "Cisco" in the title confuse you - the course is more general, just examples based on Cisco are given. If you master it, it will be easier to deal with any other equipment. The next step could be the Cisco "Routing and switching" course, for example.
P / S /: If you are in Moscow, then I can give you a book at the rate of ICND 1 free of charge, I have it lying around here.

In principle, as noted above, you can read the cisco CCNA certification course. The basics of networks are completely disassembled there.
And so the OSI model (it is desirable to understand, and not memorize the levels, then it helps a lot in troubleshooting).
Ip addressing, subnetting, mask role, how to subnet (VLSM).
What is the difference between UDP and TCP packet types.
Vlan concept.
Routing concepts, OSPF EIGRP protocols.
