What kind of VPS is needed so that the docker on ubuntu works fast there?

It is necessary to build a relatively large project in docker on ubuntu (pros, cmake).
My laptop for 20k immediately disappears, even though it has 8 GB of RAM and a full SSD. Yes, and in a virtual machine it will be slow, but it’s not good to set Ubuntu as the main one.
I bought a VPS - ubuntu server 16, 8 GB of RAM and 8 cores at 2.2 GHz, SSD.
But the docker has a very long build. And significantly longer than if on the same server outside of docker.
Is there a VPS in nature where you can work normally with docker, and how to choose (what kind of virtualization technology?)?
And if DS (not V-)?
