What is the purpose of Manage Display in Content types?

For example, in the Body field there is a LABEL with the following values:
5ef38dc15f947397066477.png
And there is a FORMAT with the following values:
5ef38dd4eaa85875354154.png

How does something change on the site depending on the selected values in the Manage Display and what does each value mean?
I tried to create my Content and change these values in Manage Display. But nothing happens to my Content and it does not change in any way. Although I tried to check the box next to different view modes.

Need a lot for what, especially with additional modules.
Out of the box, Drupal has only a few standard fields that do not indulge in a variety of settings (they are enough for typical tasks). For example, image size (preset thumbnail/medium/large or custom style).
If nothing happens to you at all when changing these settings, the following reasons are possible:
a) The changes you make are insignificant.
For example, for body summary or trimmed or trimmed will give the same result if the summary is not filled.
b) Content is rendered using a view, which may not take these settings into account.
c) If you are using some non-standard theme, it may be the case. To check, change the theme to any standard one and check the result.
d) You are looking in the wrong place, you haven’t pressed the save button, etc. Recheck.
