What is the process of incorporating design into an application?

The question sounds, of course, stupid, but I'm new to this business and I ask you to help me.
Let's take a specific situation as an example. Development is under iOS. The programmer writes the code, and the designer develops the design.
Then the designer hands over his work to the developer-programmer and there is interaction, integration of code and design. I'm interested in how this process goes, where you can read about it. Thank you.

In general, sketches / prototypes of all screens are sent first. It's stupid to start coding without them. Based on these sketches / prototypes, xibs (or a storyboard) are figured out. Then, when the design comes, you sit and typeset these xybs/storyboard.
