What is the point in human-readable URLs in CMS, what does it really give?

Than view URL

http://example.com/articles/moja-statja-o-kakoj-to-figovine

better than
http://example.com/articles/0123456789
?
Actually readability? It seems to me that few people really read them, mostly they are copied and pasted (especially in favor of this is the tolerance of the people for giant ugly encoded links to Russian Wikipedia pages).
Hiding internal DB architecture? So it’s not necessary to show a naked auto-increment ID, you can create a separate field or somehow encrypt it or use GUIDs in general (worse in performance, of course, but it’s not scary on not very large loads).
SEO? But this is interesting. Here I don't know. Does it somehow affect positions in search engines? Often such (human-readable) URLs are also called SEO-friendly, but I have some doubts, maybe this is just a myth or an outdated fact (worked with old ranking algorithms, but is not relevant now). Who knows for sure - please tell.
There is also the question of whether it makes sense to make different names for different language versions of one article, for example, better
http://example.com/en/articles/my-article-about-some-stuff
http://example.com/ru/articles/moja-statja-o-kakoj-to-figovine

or
http://example.com/en/articles/my-article-about-some-stuff
http://example.com/ru/articles/my-article-about-some-stuff

?
Thanks in advance.

If the search engine sees the desired word in your CNC, it will highlight this word in bold. joxi.ru/MwvjU_3JTJAmCDTDkp8
And any decoration of the snippet increases its clickability, and therefore increases the position of this url in the search results.

SEO - does url matter?

Nothing. The main thing is that the url is unique and the link structure is respected (so that the resource is accessible only by one URI, for example. In general, you can read the wiki ). For the user, it doesn't matter, in 99.9% of cases they just copy-paste links.

And yet it’s more pleasant to somehow imagine what the page behind the link is about. The set of numbers does not contribute to this in any way.
From the point of view of optimization for search, it certainly won’t get worse from the key phrase in the page address, but you can really argue about the positive effect for a long time.
Based on this, the answer to the last question:
example.com/en/articles/my-article-about-some-stuff
example.com/en/articles/moja-statja-o-kakoj-to-figovine
This (first) option and clearer and better work for the search - my opinion.
