For a while I freelanced only on wordpress (only on the backend) and did everything without using plugins. I recently moved to a web studio and as it turned out, 90% of the development is using plugins. It turns out that you understand the layout, php, oops, but most of the time you just need to configure plugins. It is clear that the web studio is interested in efficiency, but I do not quite like this approach to development.
In this regard, there are similar vacancies for wordpress developers with only 2-3 years of experience. What are they doing? Maybe they develop something more complex, for example, their own themes, plugins or not?

There are implementers that assemble websites from ready-made plugins / themes. This is your studio.
There are developers who develop these plugins and themes . This is, in theory, you.
Based on this simple classification, for some reason it seems to me that you made a mistake in the place. Look for another company where your skills will be useful and you will do what you like.

Do what your boss asks and in your free time study frameworks (Laravel, Yii2) or android development. You don't want to 'customize plugins' before the age of 40?)
And so, why should they force you to write a plugin if there are already ready-made ones for solving that problem? Just a waste of time = money.
My personal opinion: classifying yourself as an N cms developer is not good.
