The ideal one is the one for which the manufacturer (either hardware or OS) has officially declared support.

I use Asus zenbook ux303ln + Fedora + Win10
The touchpad works as it should, the touchscreen too. All good
Thinkpad X and Thinkpad T lines up to 50 models.
The X1c of the first generation fits your description, but it's better for thinkers not to chase the appearance and take x240/t440s (or 220/230).
For these, everything works out of the box (unless you need to put a pribluda for fingerprint to work, so that you can use it instead of a password).
Dells of the E series, for example, are positioned as linux-friendly, but they always have some little thing out of the box that does not work (for example, 7440 - when the lid was closed, the keyboard backlight always turned on, I had to go into the configs).
