What is the difference between sitemap.xml and Rss and is it necessary to do them at all?

I would like to know how sitemap.xml differs from Rss and is it necessary to do them at all? because every day I meet sites without sitemap.xml and Rss but they are indexed.

They will be indexed. BUT
with a sitemap it will be a little faster + 0.0000n% to the top
rss = a technology that allows you to read texts in a lightweight form - for readers who value their time and users of mobile devices. Unfortunately, many sites do not give a complete feed, which kills the idea itself.
rss is usually closed from indexing, so as not to produce duplicates.

RSS - news feed.
Sitemap - site map.
Any site with more than 1 page must have a sitemap.xml.
