How justified is the use of CNC in Russian?
Hello!
I made a website for a customer who required Cyrillic cnc for Yandex. That is, I had to write not /novosti/
, but /новости/
. When a link was captured, the address turned into classic hieroglyphs. /%d0%bd%d0%be%d0%b2%d0%be%d1%81%d1%82%d0%b8/
After a couple of months, he “disliked” this and, after looking at the traffic, the client thought about reaching the audience using Google and again turned to me with a request to set up redirects and change addresses to Latin. Actually the question is: how justified is this? Will there be global changes in traffic and conversions, or is the difference minimal?

I'm afraid the customer is right. No matter how they say that Cyrillic also ranks well, subjectively I still see good and confident positions for URLs in Latin. If you make correct redirects, then I think you will win in the future.
However, just by changing the URL is unlikely to be explosive growth. After all, SEO is a combination of factors.
