What is the difference between a business and a startup?

Is there a difference or is it just a newfangled word?

It is assumed that startup is an attempt to create a new business, different from the already established one.
That is, the opening of a new cafe or restaurant is a business, since almost everything is already clear and experienced.
A startup involves an investigation, for example, the sale of a new product that may not even be developed yet, but there is a certain sane plan, according to which there is hope that the accumulated resources will be enough to release the final product. An example is a 3D pen that writes with plastic. But there may be punctures, such as a razor that cuts with a laser.

I want to stand up for business - this is NOT making money, but the realization of goals. If for an entrepreneur the only goal is to make money, then I really feel sorry for him.
A startup is the initial stage of a business (which follows from the translation), which basically boils down to an active investment and information verification of the hypothesis "about the possibility of an initiative team running a business based on some idea." Based on the results of testing such a hypothesis, the team should have at its disposal resources sufficient to develop a certain business model. If resources (investments) cannot be obtained, then, probably, the team (!) - but not the idea (!) turned out to be not entirely successful. Perhaps the idea will be taken up by another team and brought to a successful business model.

A startup is run by hipsters, and a business by leaders. Everything else is the same.

Business is a well-established mechanism. But the competition is high and it is not always possible to earn money from ready-made recipes, because the market is divided.
A startup is an attempt to come up with a new business recipe.

Startup is a HIGH-RISK IT-project.
Business - in any area, the risk varies from low to high.

A startup implies a new business model of monetization, and a business already has a well-known monetization model

What is called a start-up is a business, usually in high technology, that theoretically has the potential to expand rapidly.
Other than that, I don't see any difference from a "normal" business. I believe that this is just a buzzword that is repeated on every corner today.

Every startup is a business. Therefore, in this sense they are not different.
Nevertheless, among the various possible businesses, investors single out the so-called. venture projects. Venture projects (startups) are a highly risky business that creates something that has no analogues. Often with the use of information technology, but not necessarily.
Those managers who separate startup and business act very strangely. Or just "play" with other people's money.

Startup - This is a bunch of people who implement an idea, without any money and they themselves have the right to decide what to do next!
Business - This is when this bunch of people were given seed investments or their own savings and they opened an LLC, rented a garage-type office, headed the company and hired people and try to make a profit, and then share it! In short, in the second scenario there are 1000500 more activities and Santa Barbara on request =)
