What is the developer's responsibility?

The other day they offered a project with contributions and referral programs. Finally, not an online store or a business card site, but something interesting. You can develop functionality and make a project. But suddenly it turns out later that the project is connected with fraud and is not used quite "for its intended purpose"?
I want to know if there is a danger (responsibility in which case) for the developer in terms of the law and is it worth getting involved with such projects at all?
update.
Opinions were divided in half, but for myself I decided that it was better to take another project.

In my opinion, you are winding up a lot: there are so many hypes on the network and everyone seems to be on them in parallel.
I would not take a steam bath, besides, your task is to develop a " project with contributions and referral programs ". There is nothing criminal in the formulation of the problem, and there it already depends on the customer whether the project will be white or not.
Has anyone ever blamed not Mavrodi, but the programmers who created a website for him for the recent MMM? Or why don't they imprison CMS developers who make illegal resources?
In general, summing up: there is still no problem, just wind up
