What is the correct way to connect SPA with the server?

Hey! I noticed such a thing that all the SPA services that I saw work according to the classic AJAX. That is, not RESTful.
Tell me, what is it connected with? I see the following advantages in this: no need to mess around with tokens. You can secure forms with a csrf token. Is there an example of large services that work with pure RESTful?
