What is the correct way to configure sendmail to send mail?

Good afternoon,
I installed sendmail on the server, I need to make sure that when I write the mail () function in PHP, sendmail connects via SMTP to the mail.ru server and sends mail through it. I know what to write in PHP.ini, but how to configure sendmail itself?

If there are few letters, then it is better to immediately connect to mail.ru and send mail through it.
Well, if you still want to use your own mail server, then install postfix, exim or opensmtpd. I'm for the last option. Only you have yet to set up at least sfp and dkim.
