What is the best way to work with remote project and phpstorm?

In general, the question is that I'm already tired of downloading projects via ftp, waiting for a couple of hours is hell.
How can this issue be expedited?
I would like to hear PERSONAL experience, perhaps with links to read.
Maybe you can somehow download the project to yourself, open it in phpstorm as a folder, there somehow already save changes via git and to the server. In general, I would like to hear real opinions on how to quickly pump all this out.

Download the project via http, upload it locally, push changes via git

1. Throw Windows out the window.
2. Forgetting about FTP is like a bad dream.
3. Connect to the server via SFTP.
4. You download it to your disk.
5. You raise Vargant or whatever you like - to test what you are doing.
6. And how to deploy and pull up the changes that someone else made - recipes for every taste. It is better, of course, to force it to git, but if it doesn’t work out in any way, you can compare specific folders with meld (if, of course, the first 3 points are completed).
