What is the best way to sort photos?

Now most people take several shots instead of one, so that they can choose a better one later. The result is a huge pile of photos. What is the best way to rake it?

I usually do this:
- open directly from a flash drive, without transferring to disk using Photo Mechanics (I have a poppy)
- quickly look through the entire shooting (500-600 photos), if I more or less like the photo, I put an asterisk
- when I looked through everything, I put "show only with asterisks", I copy them already to the disk, these are usually 40-50 photos
- I look in more detail, put two, if necessary, then three asterisks, and so on, until I get out

Photos should be sorted on time.
- Before each shooting, a new folder should be created in the camera (as a result, we get a little sorting at the initial stage)
- It is better to delete unsuccessful photos (technical defects, duplicates, etc.) immediately after shooting directly in the camera.
- When transferring to a PC, you can use the following template for the name of catalogs with photos:
"CameraModel - 06-30-2017 - EventName", where CameraModel is the camera model, 06-30-2017 is the date (this format is more convenient when sorting by name ), EventName - the name of the event, or a name (and the like) related to the shooting.
