Virtualization

What is the best way to do virtualization at home?

I am very vaguely familiar with the topic of virtualization, but I assume that it is she who can solve this issue. So there is an HP Proliant BL685c G5 server with two Opteron 0S8354WAL4BGH processors. I want to run several operating systems on it:
-Ubuntu for hosting a simple site
-Windows for work
-Ubuntu for work -I
have not yet decided that it is for Kodi Media Player
-Windows limited for a child
I think to connect through a laptop / thin client.
What software is needed to implement this? Preferably Open Source or with a free but limited license. It is also not entirely clear how the connection takes place, RDP?

And is it possible to do something similar like on heroku? To be able to deploy the Node.js backend in a couple of clicks, setting only the port, for example?

For a host , it’s not so much the number of processors (sockets - it’s doubtful that you will buy licenses), but the amount of:
- RAM
- store (storage volume)
normal intel desktop :) Used (and is still using) - VmWare ESXi, now version 6.0u3 - for a single host it is free. All the features that are blocked in it - they are intended for the enterprise, for home use, a free license is enough for the pinkest ears.
Connect to all this - only via RDP (you are unlikely to fool around with the pirated Horizon :) ), so give up the idea of playing / watching movies right away :) Virtualization is for servers. It's not just good - it's oh..no good for a developer, admin, networker, etc - because it allows you to keep dozens of machines (off) for testing this or that and a few running that provide current needs for storing files, profiles, developing that or other, remote access, tunnels and a lot of trinkets-and-side-bows, for example, a domain controller on samba for home users :) her from work and work with home documents - via VPN essno)
To linuxes, it is essential to cling to ssh. You can use VNC, but VNC is a well-known brake, and there is not much graphics there - all the graphics there are an SVGA card emulated by VmWare. At the very least, she pulls a simple Windows, but let's say the autocad will put her in the pose of a company machine gun easily.

@opium

on the good old
kvm, but in our time it’s much better to replace Heroku with Docker, everything is also simple, but there are no dumb restrictions on Heroku
