It's all about applying knowledge. If you need to solve a specific problem, then it is better to read the article or manual thesis. And then read the book, in which case the knowledge will fall on some practice, and reading some things you can immediately note to yourself, "I came across this, but I didn’t know about it at all." And this is remembered better.
With regards to books, the specified Craig Hunt "TCP / IP - Network Administration" is good, it reads normally.
And so, most likely, for the base, you can generally read any on the networks, the first half will be approximately the same for everyone.

Sneijder will go well with implementations. There are many examples (in C), as I recall. Yuzal at the institute when he wrote the ftp server.

If for beginners - Olifera - definitely. There is a free 5th edition of Olifer in DjVu format on the Web - perfect quality. All the other books listed are also available on the Web in electronic form for free, but they either have an insufficiently systematic approach to presenting the material, or they are simply outdated (for example, there is no description of CIDR), or they have poor translation (Tanenbaum). Reading Olifer, you feel that this is a rare breed of teachers who really want to explain in understandable language - and not show off their scholarship (or mask their ignorance with pompous words): https://www.olifer.co.uk/we/we.htm
Only find Oliferov 5th edition (and that is, earlier ones) - so as not to read outdated.
And after Oliferov - read everything else on this list - the good thing is that you don’t have to pay anything, everything is free.
Dostalek L., Kabelova A. "TCP/IP and DNS in theory and practice."
