What is Invoices for in Magento and how does it work?

Hello. In "Sales" there is an item "Invoices". There is no "Create" button. The section itself is empty, there are no entries. I didn't find it in the config either (maybe it's not in my eyes, sorry =))) Actually the question is - what is it, and what is the mechanism of work? (And the same question about the item Sales-> Transactions)

When an order is placed on your site, the manager can issue an Invoice (in other words, an Invoice) from the Order view. Also, there you can arrange Delivery (consignment note) and / or Return. When you open a new order and click the Invoice button, this will issue an invoice and change the status of the order to Pending Payment.
Transactions are Orders, Invoices, Shipping, Returns.
