What is an adequate book on basic programming?

Hello.
I noticed that at interviews sometimes they ask questions on basic programming "What is information", "What is a unit of structure", etc. Could you tell me a textbook by which you can learn all these definitions?

Textbook? Unlikely. Some kind of bad training manual for non-core universities, perhaps.
Such questions for a practical programmer are the same as asking a professional lawyer "what is a paragraph of the law?". Brad.

"Information" and "structure unit" are not from basic programming, but from the foundations of computer science. Any school textbook will help you.
