What is a WiFi hotspot?

An access point is when you connect to it. Or is it when it is created. Or when it is created and connected to it. How to classify an access point? I have Wi-Fi, who is this Wi-Fi for me? I did not create it, I got it from the Internet on my home network.

Wifi is a local area network.
Access point - a bridge (level 2 device) between Wi-Fi and some other network - local or provider. (The fact that the provider will allow only one, less often two, to connect at the 2nd level is another matter.)
But the access point is often a router, a 3rd level device.
