What interfaces and protocols do servers use to communicate with each other and with storage systems?

The boundaries between network interfaces and protocols have completely collapsed. I got confused in the abbreviations and I can’t understand where the interface is and where the protocol is!

:-) Roughly speaking, InfiniBand, Fiber Channel, SAS, SCSI is an interface, cable and protocol, depending on the context; iSCSI is a protocol (scsi over tcp), but it can also be pulled to the " Internet S mall C omputer S ystem Interface " interface , but there is no iSCSI cable.

A communication protocol is a set of logical-level interface conventions that govern the exchange of data between different programs.

Do you see the difference between Ethernet and a network card? Ethernet is a protocol, a network card is an interface.
If you want more details, please formulate the question correctly.

You misunderstood me. I have InfiniBand, Fiber Channel, SAS, SCSI, iSCSI and so on. I don't understand what I am cable and what is protocol. Or the same InfiniBand is both the protocol and the cable one whole, or what?!

I understood you perfectly. Let's see:
1. We use the FC protocol.
2. Connection via FC interface.
And here and there Fiber Channel, it all depends on the context.
A cable is a carrier, it is not a protocol or an interface. It looks like I'm confusing you even more.
PS InfiniBand - interface (bus), it is permissible to say the InfiniBand protocol (meaning the InfiniBand protocols), it is permissible to say the InfiniBand cable, but the cable will not become a protocol and an interface from this ;-)

InfiniBand, Fiber Channel is an interface, cable and protocol.
SAS, SCSI, iSCSI are the only protocols that can be run over InfiniBand, Fiber Channel and Ethernet
Am I right?
