What hosting to choose for organizing Internet TV broadcasting of one channel and how much can it cost?

Hello!

There is a self-made TV channel that broadcasts over the Internet. It's called Yunost.Ru. One good uncle from St. Petersburg does it almost alone.

TV channel website: http://yunost-ru.narod.ru

Uncle uses services such as yatv.ru and ustream.tv for broadcasting. Neither service provides quality traffic. Even on a wide channel of 10Mbit, it is impossible to watch Yunost.Ru - constant stuttering, freezing the picture, waiting for the download. That is, the problem is in the servers themselves that organize the broadcast.

There is an idea to organize independent broadcasting. Buy VDS hosting and broadcast via VLC for example.

But I have never dealt with such projects with large outgoing streams.

Therefore, questions to orient:

1. How realistic is it to independently organize broadcasting on a regular or cloud VDS? I use TrueVDS.ru, but they do not work with large streams:

2. Do you need a very expensive tariff for a good return, or can you meet it without problems for 500 rubles per month? Please specify the hosting and tariff where such a broadcast server can be hosted.

3. What are your personal recommendations for the implementation of such a project?

VPS will allow to serve just a few connections.
If I were the author, I would reconsider the broadcasting format in favor of a channel on YouTube or another popular video hosting. By the way, it is really more effective, from many angles and points of view.

When we did this (although we didn’t have a channel, but a webcam, but it doesn’t matter), we used a regular computer as a server. So I don’t think that there is a fundamental difference - is it broadcasting or a regular CMS.

It seems to me that you just need to find a suitable free service with broadcasts - smotri.com or someone else. It is too difficult to bother with organizing your own broadcast server IMHO. As a solution, Flash Media Server comes to mind, which, if licensed clean, costs about 800 bucks.

Your problem is that for 5 kopecks you want to get rid of your YouTube or some Telenanny ... The idea is generally kind and bright, but it won’t work out that way. First, change the design, then consider options for monetizing the site, you need to look for sources of income or an investor. Check with some turbofilm on how they organize the broadcasting of such a huge number of series. And by the way, they charge a pretty small subscription fee for it.
As for the implementation, take a look at ffmpeg - the most popular and reliable tool for online broadcasting and broadcasting video files on the network.
PS - and yes, I read that one person is doing this, but in the end - It's not the Gods that burn the pots;)

For broadcasting, you need not just a good channel, but a channel that has no restrictions on streaming video (and they are often imposed by providers who are not profitable to clog the channel with one client).
Calculate the price of a dedicated channel of 100Mbit based on 2000 rubles per month somewhere, and 1000Mbit from 25000 rubles per month.
Also, the UPU will not help you. You need a server that is optimized for threading at the OS level, and on non-desktop hardware.
The server can be ordered and hosted at www.eserver.ru

Have you tried broadcasting via sopcast ?
This is a very interesting technology, p2p video broadcasting - that is, not 1 server distributes data to all users, but it distributes only to individual users, then the users themselves exchange data with each other. Thus, the problem of the need for a powerful channel for the server is solved. What is most interesting: the more users on the network, the better the broadcast :)
Minus the technology: it only works on Windows, you need to install special. sopcast player program.

There is also Adobe Stratus and its commercial counterpart - Adobe LCCS, with which you can organize P2P broadcasting to flash clients.

The resources of a modern VPS allow you to broadcast to hundreds of users at the same time - everything depends only on the channel and its cost.
Of the free media servers, we can name Nibmle: https://wmspanel.com/nimble and StreamBuilder: inventos.ru/produkty/streambuilder (the free version has limitations, but it comes with a transcoder right away) - both are developed by teams from Russia.
You can simplify your life if you immediately work with a CDN tailored for video. The most famous among us are CDN Video: www.cdnvideo.ru and Webcaster: www.webcaster.pro

It looks like it’s worth changing the Internet after all, for the sake of interest I followed the link, all video broadcast services showed without stuttering and stopping the picture.

See if the same providers have yatv or similar commercial packages where they could provide a better broadcast - this will be the easiest and cheapest option. Otherwise, you will have to invest in hardware, system administrator, channels.
You are doing a good job, try to find sponsors - for example, charitable foundations, like-minded people, etc. It is almost impossible to make a normal video on the Internet alone without money.
