What happened to the laptop?

What happened to the laptop with windows 7 installed?
Oddities that I noticed:
1. Windows 7 starts, ie. there was a logo (animation of windows) and then a black screen with a cursor (I can move it). ALL
2. I go into the BIOS and there the buttons themselves are pressed. RANDOM. AS? Virus?
3. Booted from ubuntu (LiveCD). Gparted won't start. unable to mount disk.

Disable keyboard?
Very unlikely.
Is this the only "Live Disk" available?
