What firm mk to choose and language?

Now I am studying in the specialty of PC, but I don’t see the prospects for the development of PLCs, I want to study microcontrollers on my own, I had little experience with pic, I wrote in C, but what is more often used now “in life”, I looked towards stm32, but I’m not sure ...

stm32 is good, but I think it's worth starting with Arduino and AVR. It is much cheaper and it is much easier to assemble a real device on them. There are Arduino compatible boards on stm32

on the return.
0. any cortex M0, C language
1. any cortex M4, C language
2. any cortex A8/9/53 + linux + C++
produce them all and sundry, probably the most easily delivered stm
about arduino you can forget, for professional development of them do not use.
you can also look at small controllers like msp430 - but they are specific, for battery power mainly.
