What else can a fingerprint scanner for a laptop besides LogIn into a Windows system?

Good time toasters and toasters!
The crux of the issue is in the title. And so I tend to: enter sites (chosen by me) using a fingerprint, instead of entering a password and / or the ability to use in Putty, WinSCP .
ps I have a thinkpad for example (my model comes without this scanner, but supports it as an option)
pss I am also considering writing for this necessary software, if it is possible in principle

As an alternative to fingerprints, you can use YubiKey or any other device that supports FIDO U2F
