Various. Google data centers are crammed with thousands of budget servers. Almost daily, those that fail are pulled out of the racks and replaced with new ones. A kit in different batches can be fundamentally different.
Absolutely different. YouTube is a highly loaded and distributed system. It's not a storage rack on a Google campus, it's thousands of different servers around the world. Some work as storage, others as a cache, others as a web, fourth as a database, and so on. All these are completely different tasks, conditions and requirements, and they need completely different hardware.
Experts will not answer, there are no Google engineers here, and you can listen to rumors from the OBS agency on the bench.
like on Habré (but this is not accurate) about 5 years ago there was an article about how Google buys up the old budget city ... and builds infrastructure on this. out of order - in the trash, don't bother messing with it. and it's not just about rack servers, their role is also played by old dead (well, for whom, apparently) PCs.
