What does "team kernel ... nouveau ... fifo: DMA_PUSHER...(err: MEM_FAULT) push 00400040"...[DMAOBJ_LIMIT] error mean?

Linux Mint 4.4.0-177-generic x86_64 (64 bit) 18 Sarah Hangs
from time to time when starting some application. The mouse cursor is and moves, the hard drive shows some kind of weak activity, everything else hangs. In the logs this is:

@Zoominger

A poor free driver for the video card hangs.
Put the normal proprietary one.
Instructions are googled for any video card and distribution.
