What does full time mean?
What does full time work (remote work) mean?
1. Actively work all 8 hours.
2. Be in touch for 8 hours, it does not matter how much you work, the main thing is to close projects on time.
Or I’ll ask this: will the employer look askance at me if I really work only 5 hours out of 8 (the rest of the time just be in touch)? Or does everyone do it?

1) If you work 8 hours and start work at 10 am, then the employer and your colleagues expect you that at any time from 10 to 19 (an hour for lunch + 8) - they can write to you, call and you will promptly you get in touch with them. And let's say they will expect that if there are questions about some code, then IDEA / GIT and so on will be open for you (i.e. you are in a working environment) - no one bothers to watch the serial on some additional tab ( better to use another browser).
2) If you need to fall off somewhere for an hour or two, then the employer expects you to coordinate this with your team, notify everyone in a common slack, skype, etc. and then finalize the downtime in "free" time.
The main problem of remote workers is that they confuse remote work and a free schedule. Like when I want to start working, when I want to finish working, when I want to fall off. No, here you need to be available and in working order at a certain time interval. For when guys come into you with some question during working hours, and at that time you went to the store or to the girls with a mental formulation (I will finalize the clock at night) - this is a dismissal.
As for the hours - just write off the time for everything you do (coding, rallies, calling the guys, consulting QA on your tasks, and so on). Then it turns out that you coded conditionally 5 hours, and the time was written off in general 7-8 hours.
Or does everyone do it?this is how everyone does it in the OFFICE - they work at most 2-3 hours a day, then they have lunch, then they depict violent activity while sitting on the Internet.
Don't let your soul be lazy,
Beat the devil in the heat of the moment.
The soul is obliged to work
In the production of bricks.

The answer, as always, is "depends". Basically, of course, from the employer.
Maybe "plow from 8 to 20, the rest of the time answer Slack for half an hour", and "the main thing is to follow this and that."
I strongly advise you to talk with colleagues and / or boss in advance so that there are no surprises.
