What does a security officer need to know?

I am a graduate. I'm going to apply for IB. I understand perfectly well that there is not much sense from the university. My ultimate goal is to work in my specialty abroad (USA, South Korea, China, Japan). What information security profile is most in demand abroad? What do you need to plan and learn in 4 years? Are there any good blogs maintained by information security specialists? What to read before the start of core subjects?
