Tell me, please, a university in St. Petersburg for a novice analyst

Good afternoon, Habr. I hope for your help.

It just so happened that the scores obtained for the Unified State Exam are much lower than expected (242 out of 260+ in the MRI and 217 out of 240+ in the MRF). Apparently due to the fact that applied knowledge seemed more interesting to me than the requirements of the Unified State Examination ... Anyway, the train left and with these points the passage to the previously chosen ITMO / LETI / MEPhI is no longer guaranteed.

I want to study in St. Petersburg (I myself am from the EKB), and I don’t try to have any illusions about the value of HE in Russia (but I don’t want to move yet, unless the government is completely overwhelmed). I like Peter as a city. Moscow is the second option (I have a target at MSTU). That is, I understand that one way or another - I have to intensive self-education. But the teaching staff and the student atmosphere also play an important role: both to advise literature and to act as partners / mentors.

What interests me: mathematics and cybernetics in the first place. Second, everything. Accordingly, I am going to study as an analyst (however, it is quite close to programming, because it gives quite good algorithmic thinking, despite the lack of craving for programming itself). Those. System analysis and management. From related areas - Management in technical systems and industries and Automation.

Actually, a question. Where should you go to study? Documents will be submitted to ITMO, LETI and MSTU (target). There are two more options (a total of five universities). Therefore, where is mathematics and algorithmics stronger, where are they taught to think and work with information (I'm talking about interesting theses)? I know about the Polytechnic University and the Faculty of Mathematics of St. Petersburg State University, but ... In general, I would like to hear your opinion, Khabrovites, which of the universities in St. Petersburg (Moscow, maybe) should I apply if I want to become a systems analyst?

You know correctly about the Polytechnic University. I myself graduated from LETI, but, looking at my classmates at the Polytechnic University, I must admit that I envied them a little: the applied component, it seems to me, is much better developed there. There is a real opportunity to study and practice in related departments - frankly speaking, commercial ones, i.e. selling their products (LETI also has this factor, but in a more academic form).
I can’t say anything about the mathematics of St. Petersburg State University — people from there have always seemed to me like demigods. :)

I graduated from LETI in 2007, department of ASOIU. I currently work as a systems analyst, but before that I worked as a consultant for many years. Actually, I can’t say anything bad about LETI, but, according to the accumulated impressions, my department was certainly not the strongest. Perhaps there are other departments at the Faculty of Computer Technologies where the following specialties are taught:
220100 System Analysis and Control
220200 Automation and Control
230200 Information Systems
