What does a raid card give?

There is a PC, a server type, DellPowerEdge, there is a raid board but there is only one disk (hard), the question is the board gives some kind of goodies in the form of speed, fault tolerance? Or is it better if one disk then just directly throw a sata cable ... e2k-ucp-51 card, and what is its approximate cost?

With a single disk, the RAID controller is useless. It won't give any benefits.
Previously, when there were times of SATA2, then in order for the motherboard with the old chipset to have SATA3, RAID controllers were installed. Because in addition to RAID, he also knew how to SATA3.
