What does a mobile app designer need to know?
I was engaged in website design, nothing special, I didn’t reach any high level, although there are good works. Mostly used images and icons in the public domain. I work in photoshop. Now I'm interested in mobile applications, I understand that there are specifics. What should a true mobile app designer be able to do? What tasks to solve? For example icons. Who is involved in the creation of the application icon - a screen designer or an individual specialist? It is clear that if you know how, then you take it, the question is, is it possible to position yourself as a designer in this sector at all, if you do not know how to draw icons?
What program do you prefer to work with? I plan to work with foreign customers, maybe they have their own preferences in terms of layout sources. What guides to read? In general, orient, friends.
I was looking for materials on the net, but everything is somehow scattered, I would like to put it on the shelves :) Thanks in advance for the advice.

1. Download 100 popular applications, use, look for repetitive solutions, redraw and refine, delve into the essence of each panel and each transition between screens that you find convenient.
2. Know https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentat... and developer.android.com/design/index.html . Love them, hate them, neglect them - but know
3. Learn UX and come back with specific questions ;)
To be honest, in terms of design, I think that you don’t need to know anything. A little imagination and the ability to implement all this and I'm sure you will get a great project.
Look at least at the design of the same toaster. Now the trend is minimalism, all sites use a minimum of images, a maximum of css. The main thing is the right combination of colors. Don't overdo the variety and don't mix warm with cold.
Good luck to you
