I use the 10th, and she zadolbala me specifically. I want to move to a penguin, and I used it for the last time back in 2014. The choice of distribution kit is indifferent to me, most likely it will be Fedora. The issue is the choice of environment.

The last thing I used was a rat, aka XFCE, with compiz + emerald. I used it on an old DELL beech with a video card from nVidia, from a series of professional ones. In general, with a proprietary driver.
At the same time, I looked at MATE, because I liked the secondary one.

About 6 years have passed, something has changed, I look on the Internet for a description of the shells, and there is banalism, they say cinnamon is based on a gnome and therefore it is, but MATE is a fork of a secondary gnome and therefore it is.

And there is no sensible comparison, such as how notifications are functional, what can be placed on the desktop, some features in the settings, examples of interface design, etc.

I think experienced people will prompt and poke their noses.

There is a limitation in performance in the form of Intel Ivy Bridge integrated into the processor. Even then I was installing Gnome - the animations were slowing down, the more windows on the desktop - the more the window movement slowed down.

I don't seriously consider window managers like openBOX, i3wm, etc. The PC will also be used by some other family members. The entry threshold should not exceed the usual desktop with icons and windows that can be moved with the mouse.

I expect from kind people a specific answer to the adored shell, with specific factors why it is considered cool. It would also be cool to see your design examples and usage / customization experience. :) Sincerely!

Pantheon from elementary OS is probably suitable for such requirements.
And also hackintosh, if it fits on your hardware, perhaps nothing is friendlier than mac.
