What causes gnome-shell to hang on Ubuntu 17.10?

I installed Ubuntu 17.10 along with Win10 on a laptop, but the graphical shell lags a lot, despite the fact that the hardware is quite good - core i5 7th gen, 16gb ram, gtx1060-6gb. The lags of the shell are that all interface elements and the windows themselves are rendered slowly and updated from top to bottom (it looks like large pictures on the Internet are loaded), scrolling in windows is jerky, and so on. I think that the problem is in gnome-shell, because if you kill this process, then, for example, mozilla works flawlessly. Well, or in the video card drivers.
I tried to install video card drivers (proprietary from nvidia) in many completely different ways - from the nvidia website, through "Software and Updates"->"Additional drivers" and through the terminal, using the package manager. All these methods give the same result - it is impossible to boot into the system after a reboot, the boot hangs at the "Stopping User Manager for UID 121 ..." stage. Therefore, proprietary drivers had to be removed from recovery mode.
Why, damn it, there are so many problems with ubuntu ... I didn’t even have to install firewood on the top ten, I installed everything myself, and here I’ve been fighting for more than a day.
What to do, how to fix the system?
