What caused the back button change in browsers?

The other day I discovered such a thing
https://yadi.sk/i/n_jrQBmpuZcr9
appears when you press backspace to go back to the page. In opera and firefox, alt + arrow is also supported. But in chrome and opera, backspace is no longer supported. Firefox still has this functionality. What caused these changes?

@mountpoint

I read somewhere that Chromium disabled backspace at the request of many users who were typing something, then accidentally went out of "focus" of the text field and pressed backspace again to erase what was written. And instead of erasing, there was a transition "Back" and everything written was lost. I just don't remember where I read it. I'll find it, unsubscribe

It was possible to accidentally lose all data (typed text, filled fields, etc.) by clicking on it.
