Hard disks
antonwx, 2021-10-22 09:39:59

What can you try to do to restore the hard drive?

The situation is as follows, there is an old hard disk, seagate 2012 per terabyte, when connected, the head runs back and forth for a while, then the disk turns off. The disc has clearly been subjected to torture during operation: the plate has a distinct scratch and a few puncture marks.
What can you try to do to make the disk start up and try to pull something out of it? The contacts of the board have already been cleaned to a shine.
ps: I’ll make a reservation right away: no one will attribute this disk to any specialized expensive service

For Seagate drives, such symptoms (clicks / clicks, then the engine stops) mean the failure of the heads. Very often with damage to the magnetic surface of the plates of one degree or another.

The disc has clearly been subjected to torture during operation: the plate has a distinct scratch and a few puncture marks.

Seagate could start ruining itself during normal work, and finally get drunk in the process of trying to restore it on its own - plug it in there, plug it in here, try some program, etc.
Generally speaking, you opened the hard drive HDA in vain . Even if there were no scratches on the pancakes, it would make the situation worse and the cost of data recovery higher.

Forgive my sarcasm, but it's like asking a doctor: "A man in a sports car flew into a pole at a speed of 250 km / h. They put three adhesive plasters on his forehead, how else can you try to heal him?"
You won't do anything by yourself. The contacts on the board have absolutely nothing to do with it.
Putting the disk in the refrigerator and changing the board will not help either.
The disk must be thoroughly cleaned of magnetic dust inside and the head unit must be changed. Most likely not just once.
And given the description of the situation, it is not a fact that in this state it will be possible to launch it at all.
this disk will not be referred to any specialized expensive service

Then all. Such a case (concentric scratches, autopsy) requires a highly qualified information recovery specialist. And those who know how to work with such cases will upset you with the price and timing.

Nothing.

Did you open the hermetic block for him?
In general, with such behavior (in the common people "banging his head"), it is hardly possible to restore data in "home" conditions.

Then you can give the child to play. Because it's FSE. As soon as the disk starts jerking its head at startup, this means that it is just like a man thrashing his hands in agony. Usually, at home, all that can be done is to let it rest and then try to run it, and if you're lucky, quickly copy data from it.
Opening the disk at home is FSE. Yes, after that you can restore, but it is expensive and time consuming.

Nothing
Especially considering the autopsy in a dust-free chamber.
Investments in recovery equipment are too high, it's easier to recover data for 500-1000 bucks in a service
