What areas of mathematics would an engineer need?

I have been studying Python for about 6-8 months, I have completed a couple of freelance tasks, often parsing or cart bots, I decided to decide on the direction, whether there is a choice or date engineering or web, but I am self-taught, I don’t know exactly what exactly I need to learn, I have there is a certain stack taken from the Internet, but not about everything.

Data Engineers spend a lot of time working with data, what math was most useful to you? They say Java is more important than Python, is it true?

"data science" is the same abstract concept as "programming". To decide on the sections of mathematics, you need to understand what data and in what area you will have to work. It could be like time series forecasting in stock trading, it could be flow analysis, it could be the processing of statistical observations, it could be machine learning for some kind of robot - whatever.

IMHO
From mathematics, first of all, mathematical statistics, algebra and number theory, set theory.
For a data scientist, PL is an auxiliary tool.
As far as I understand, python is just easier to learn + there are many specific libraries.
Java is a "bloody yntyrprize".
There is no point in learning it if you are not going to be a programmer.
