What are your goals when creating mini/pet projects?

Hi everyone
By mini/pet-projects, I mean projects that will be pulled by 1 person in their free time from their main work.
Main questions:

  1. The main goal of such a project
  2. The timing of such a project
  3. Does it generate income
  4. Is there any motivation to develop it

Probably in a buzz in your free time to do work. So you can break your brain and earn scoliosis ... and most importantly - no social package and overtime fees.))

Research and prototyping of some new interesting functionality, in order to later turn it into a profitable project.

What are your goals when creating mini/pet projects?

  • Try out a tool that you want to try but don't drag into the main project, or design something relatively large on your own, which is very useful for beginners.
  • Create some source of income from this project in the long run.
  • Just for fun. Sometimes you can do something very small that no one else has done, just to see what happens. For example, I recently tried to adapt an already existing layout of one of the projects for display in virtual reality glasses. It was just interesting to see if it could be done. The first part of the experiment was described in the article .
