On the 1st question - there is one subtlety, very important, but it is not understood immediately. This applies not only to resorts, but, in general, to remote work. We must try to physically separate work from home and leisure. It is desirable that you have to go to work at least a little, drive. I think the good options are co-working offices, or renting a separate space nearby. If, nevertheless, this is impossible, then it is necessary to allocate a certain place and time for work so as not to be distracted and not distracted by loved ones (hard). This is especially true if there is a family.
The first answer already described a very important problem. This is mega important. I personally do not know a single person who would work at home as productively as in the office.
The second problem is marginalization. Working remotely, you fall out of society, you don’t have corporate holidays, you can’t flirt with a pretty secretary, etc. It's not a burden at first, especially if you have a family, but it can hit you really hard when, for example, you want to assemble a team for your project.

Тысячи долларов мне хватает с головой
По второму пункту - есть вот такая сравнивалка стоимости жизни в разных городах, разных стран.
