What are the nuances when creating low poly models (characters) for game engines?
In general, two questions are of interest, but I will be glad if, in addition to them, you touch on some more topics and questions that you consider important in this topic.
1. Can triangles be used in modeling?
2. If I use triangles, will the triangulation engine divide the existing triangles into 2 more? That is, should I triangulate the model myself before exporting, or leave it to the engine?

Triangles can be used in any case, they just often cause inconvenience when modeling.
Triangulation - the division of polygons into triangles, when there is already a ready-made triangle, it does not touch.
It may be necessary to manually triangulate in order for the triangles to form exactly as expected.
