What are the arguments for the client when updating the site (redesign)?

How do you convince a new client to upgrade their old site with poor design, typography and messy structure? If they are already earning money, there are customers, their business is advertised.
Take for example a restaurant or a car service (both the site and there is only informational).
I am looking for a niche for my skills and desires and chose UX / UI integration, as I worked a lot of time with design, website builder and development.
Thanks everyone for the answer!

You can write a poem on a hundred A4 sheets with links and quotes. But they won't read it.
From my own experience, I recommend doing the work, showing it and offering to buy it . If you are confident in your abilities, everything will work out.

The first question to ask is - do they need it?
In some industries, design is completely unimportant and customers come regardless of what font they have on the site. The customer comes for the product. A specific product, if there are no analogues of the product, then they do not care about the structure. If the site makes a profit, then maybe everything is not so bad there?
The design is for the audience, the 40 year old doesn't care about pictures, frames and style, he is pragmatic and the site should be the same, so maybe their prehistoric site is not as bad as it seems?

What matters is the purpose of the redesign, not the typography, structure, and so on.
If you clearly indicate to the client, for example:
- I can make the design so that the support service receives half as many calls
- I can save you about 1 million a year on this or that by redrawing here and here.
- This feature will allow you to lose your nose to your main client
, etc.
Then your services will be bought immediately, but they just don’t understand what you want from them and what they will receive (in numbers in the end)
Define the design goal clearly and clearly from a business position (and not designer)
